In 1980, Professor Werner Mormann proposed the idea of reconstructing the tooth crown using a computer. In this method, accurate pictures are taken of the crown of the damaged tooth. The restoration of the missing parts of the tooth crown is designed on the computer. The lathe, which is a robot, carves the designed restoration in three dimensions from a ceramic cube. The restoration prepared in the same session is permanently placed on the tooth by the dentist.
